RPG Update

This thread is to gauge your reactions to the idea of taking out the current RPG and installing an updated version. That will solve a lot of the problems reported with the old one, which seems to be breaking down in areas I don't think are fixable, and also improve the overall experience.

This will mean of course that you will all lose your current characters and have to start again. That is the downside. I feel it is worth it if we can get a stable RPG going without a lot of the hassles of the current one, but want to know what the rest of you feel about this.

Well, it won't be just an update to the rpg. We are going to update the whole forum software to a better version of vb.

yea update it i dont mind losing my chracter if it will be better use one of the final fantasy's battle systems if you can and i wanna see the attacks not refesh the page everytime

Not every few months! Then everything would be deleted every few months which would just get tiresome. Besides, I don't think whoever makes these Hacks makes a new system every couple of months. And that would be annoying if you were a moderator that had to constantly update. :D

If you could update verfew maoths or years to a new verson without losing anycharacter info and it only took a few mins that would be great

Yes. If nothing is reset then there is no reason not to.

Question for Shaggy/Shadow. Did you get our hack from a Duengons and Dragons hack because I found one that is really close to it except its for DD, not FF?

Most of my gil is...umm...borrowed from the bank. For testing purposes only of course :p.

Sounds like we are going ahead with all the updating, so I'll put any work on the RPG on hold until after that happens.

I'm up for it. I'm wondering if you could enter our levels and gil back to where they where before updating? Kind of like reseting the post count when a board crashs.

I think they said somewhere that they could add gil, but no anything about your character. This way everyone has a fair start though! :cool:

I have just over 3000 gil.
I spent all of it restoring my MP after battles. That's how I leveled up from lv. 17.

EDIT:I have 1166 posts so 1166x15=17,490. :(


O yeah...Well I have over 17,000,000 gil in FF7 AND a nice little house in Costa de Sole!!!!! :p:D:D:D:D + A very cool Airship! ;)

QUESTION!
What does Gil look like. Is it a paper money or coin. Somehow I can't see a little cactus running around with a wad of cash! :D Actually I can't see a little cactuses running around at all! :p :D

In my last post I mentioned a little house in Costal de Sole. Most people don't know it, but once you have 300,000 gil you can by the old Shinra house in Costal de Sole! The one with the old guy sleeping in the basement.

Okay. If you can't save our personal characters data, but you can save the gil(or at least add it back) should everyone sell their weapons, armor, accersories, items, and magic? Cause I have 4387 gil it that stuffs.

I think you should sell your weapons. It could save you a lot of gil. HE HE! I get 210+ gil per day by just having 7832 gil sitting in the bank! :D

Too bad you sold your own weapons...it was motivating to have competition...

I'm sure when Shaggy gets up to it, he'll start on updating everything. He's probably busy with real-life things right now and can't be bothered with working on it this second. (It isn't that important anyway. Not to me, at least.)

If we have to update the RPG...I'm not all that excited. I finally got to lvl 13! But IF things will get betsimpsier (better, simpler, easier) then I'm up for it.

i think you should make it so that when you are in battle and you attack it doesnt refresh the entire page, because it restarts the BGM everytime which is annoying >.<

Yea, It does kinda suck that the midis refresh after an attack.
Also, this may just be my computer. But the battle feild on mine starts about an inch up and tiles so the top inch of the bg is on the bottom part of the bg. If that makes any sence.

and meybe take out the battle naming for the monster arena. I dont really see a point for naming a 5 second battle. And people arnt creative enough to come up with a diff name every battle.

And i dont think u should use the rpg inferno. I personally dispise it.

Well actully the rpg inferno may have some great potental. But the only site ive seen it on was the worst rpg game ive ever seen. They prorobly just didnt know how to use it, but im pretty sure if we use the RPG Inferno it will take away the nice battles. Ide say just keep the RPG the way it is, and just add/subtract features that people like/dislike. Just my opinion tho.

The problem with keeping this one (from my understanding) is that it just lacks features other RPG Hacks have, and it's pretty buggy too. It also...is just kinda boring, personally. Flat. Like, limited things to do. xD (If that makes sense.) Getting the latest version (although it seems the whole forum will be rehauled.) would probably be more effective. Well, from what I understand.

You seem to be under the misconception that someone from this site MADE the RPG. That is not true. It's a free (I think?) RPG Hack that is installable on forums like this, the creator makes the changes, not the people who use it on their forums. Yes you can configure it, but only to an extent. Adding completely new features is not possible. So the only way to get new features would be to install a new version or a different hack. And there is a new version of the RPG Hack available, it's just that installing it would just erase all current stats, and it will be done at some point :)

or you could edit the php coding...=)
Obviously no1 from this site made this, but im pretty sure its editable... but meybe the people who made the rpg hack wont alow that =/.

Well yeah, I suppose you could change the source I guess, since PHP is not compiled, but I'd imagine it being too much of a hassle to add completely new features in someone else's code compared to just getting the new version.

I was under the impression that Shaggy would restore at least our Gil. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) I think we do have to start over on everything though...Still, take it for a grain of salt, I really don't know for sure.
