This is sort of a present for Zeromus_X. I wrote this ages ago for a blog and thought he, and other cat crazy people, may enjoy it. I'm not the best writer in the world, so don't expect anything brilliant, but the story is sort of cute and a bit funny, I hope :).

I may write more stories about my crazy cats in the future.

It was the woman owners pay day and that was always a good day for him. As he yawned and stretched, as only a cat could, glancing with pride at four pristine white feet as he did so, Milo's thoughts turned to what titbits he could expect to mooch out of his human owners once the groceries were brought in. There was always nice cat food. He had long ago trained his humans out of trying to give him that generic brand rubbish. Perhaps some sliced ham or chicken, and on rare occasions salami. It took some pathetic looks and plaintive meows to get his share of those exotic foods out of the owners, but at 7 years of age he'd had plenty of time to hone his begging skills and very rarely missed out.

Fully awake, and seeing the woman human start to stir, he jumped down off the bed, where he'd spent a comfortable night cuddled into the man owners legs, and padded out to the kitchen in the hopes there just might be some meat left in the bowls from the night before. Alas they were totally empty. Well, the girl cat, Calico, was allowed to eat too, he thought grumpily, and settled for some cat biscuits instead. As the human woman stumbled into the kitchen and put the kettle on for coffee, he went into mooch mode and started rubbing around her legs, prompting her to curtly tell him get out of the way before he tripped her. All part of the game, he thought to himself watching her get cup, coffee and sugar ready. As the kettle boiled, she opened the fridge and took out the white stuff. Now Milo's mooch mode went into overdrive. This stuff was his hit, his favourite, his all and everything. He was a milk addict and had no shame admitting it. The woman took the hint and getting out a clean cat bowl, splashed in a small amount and placed the bowl under his nose. Ah, he thought lapping greedily, this is the life.

Milo often thanked his good fortune that he'd been taken into this house. No children to chase him around, or dress him up in silly costumes, no dogs that wanted to used him as a snack, just two humans who loved him, and spoiled him rotten. Well him and the other cats. There used to be two other cats, Calico, a tortishell female, still lived in the same house. Old and aloof, she rarely noticed he was alive, let alone sharing her living space. Not that he minded that, it suited him fine, but she did get annoying when the humans had fish for dinner. It was her favourite, and the only time she'd push him out of the way to get the tit bits they dropped. Wills was a big, bad tempered ginger tom, and his arch nemesis. Being the youngest cat in the house, Milo had been used by Wills as a chew toy from the moment he entered the door. Calico did nothing to help him. She was just glad the entrance of a new kitten took Wills attention off her. As Milo grew older and bigger, he and Wills grew closer in a brother sort of way. As he didn't like fighting, but the other cats in the neighbourhood did, and a scrawny tabby was the perfect victim to bully, he often found himself grateful for Wills sudden appearances which would result in fur flying, neighbour cats streaking home battered and bruised, and the victor escorting his housemate home in triumph. Milo was still unsure how to feel about Wills sudden disappearance. The owners were very upset about it, and searched and searched for weeks, desperately trying to find him. He missed the brother moments, but didn't miss the bullying.

As he watched the woman owner leave to do the shopping, Milo curled up on the lounge chair to sleep the hours away until she returned. The man owner was still sleeping and probably wouldn't be up until much later, and as the house was so quiet, and he was so full of milk and biscuits, it didn't take long until he was soundly asleep. Hours later, a car door slamming woke him with a start. She's back, he thought with excitement, jumping down off the lounge chair and taking position by the door to see how many white shopping bags would be coming up the stairs. Strangely though, the woman only had a couple of white bags, and was carrying a large cardboard box with holes stabbed all over it. Milo watched in puzzlement as the woman entered the house, threw the bags on the kitchen table and after gently placing it on the floor, carefully opened the box.

He heard it before he saw it. A high pitched plaintive meow. No, he thought in horror, it couldn't be. Not another one. There's hardly enough snacks in this house for me. As he watched in disbelief, the woman owner lifted a very small black kitten out of the box and after giving him a reassuring cuddle, placed him on the floor. The kitten darted off out of site under the nearest chair, but after some coaxing from the woman owner, he slowly ventured out and started exploring his new home. Milo hadn't moved but was watching every move the kitten made carefully. If this one is like Wills, I'm out of here, he thought firmly. I'm not going through that again.

Milo stood his ground, waiting to see what the kitten would do. The kitten stopped just in front of him, and reaching out his head, gently licked Milo on the nose. Well, that’s ok, thought Milo in relief. At least he didn't go the throat like Wills did. Just as he finished thinking this thought, the black kitten suddenly jumped behind him, and leaping upwards, bit Milo on the back of the neck. You're it, shrieked the kitten, and ran. Milo, once he got over the surprise of the attack, shot after him. I'll get you, you little black pain in the neck, yelled Milo. You have to catch me first, laughed the kitten.
