Square-enix definitely, Rockstar's games are just mindless killing. Sure, more people have heard of Rockstar but when it comes to counting how many people play their games/collect their games; Square-enix wins by far.
Bottom line is; Squaresoft (now Square-enix) was founded in 1983, Rockstar was formed in 1998, pretty obvious which is better.

An even BETTER point, most of their games lack storylines!

yeah if you notice the games dont bring across any kind of emotion and dont have any meaning. i think thats why final fantasy stands out so much, it has so many emotions and brings across the points of peace and things that go on in the world ifit didnt have all the magic and summons it would be just like everyday life. whereas rockstar games for example, gta it has no emotion, no story line, no point and the game doesnt last very long you buy it and the next day you have completed it there isnt many side missions and after a couple of hours you have sold it back for quatre of the price back to the game shop and have learnt nothing. but what you already know on gangastas and drugs. its a 18 game but even underage kids buy it and it teaches them to want to be like that when there older.

I think square enix is square soft and electronic arts bundled together, two major international companies versus an english one.

Well, Rockstar also made a game fairly recently called "Table Tennis" :P Which apparently was pretty damn good too (not that I have tried it, only read reviews).

It's a great starter to the 360. I liked it for a few weeks. =D

Oh, and FTR...

Final Fantasy>Grand Theft Auto.

Grand Theft Auto does have storylines but it doesn't go into dramatic things mostly because the games are meant to be humorous. Well in San Andreas there were parts with Carl where he was pretty furious when he found out that the Caucasian officer , Officer Tenpenny I beleive killed his mother and when he was making fun of him when you were chasing him down. The ending seemed to have some emotion too, but GTA goes for more variety in gameplay and Rockstar seems to be more popular to answer your question. There are more people who haven't heard of Square Enix than Rockstar.

Rockstar is more popular because it relates to people in a modern age.

I could assure you ten years ago, Squaresoft would've blown Rockstar out of the water with the games they have now. =D But, yeah, it's not ten years ago. Squaresoft evolved into Square-Enix, and the population changed.

It got more..influential to television, and picking sides. So interests got changed from something deep to something fun.

=P

Sorry, Lyde I've played that game.... and that officer was provoking CJ more than being funny! The final moral of its story (like ALL GTAs) is that street scums can top the other bigger scums and become, well the biggest scum of them all!
I think reason described it best when he said somethin is wrong with walkin around shootin innocent ppl, and that's just what you normally do during the whole game!

So Squaresoft kicks Rockstars' @$$
As for a Square-Enix/Rockstar comaparison........ I wouldn't really now

I didn't say he was trying to be funny i was describing it as one of the few times where the game was serious or dramatic.

He was stating his opinion.

And we can all clearly see there's MUCH more depth in a Final Fantasy game than that in a GTA game. Thought GTA games appeal to the people a lot more than FF. Just depends on the interests of our people. Oh, and influences play a teensy little part in there too.

Personally, I like both. GTA has no depth in my eyes whatsoever, so I can jump in and have a great time playing it, not worrying about having to think about a story. Whereas FF appeals the taste in which I want a good story to think about, and to enjoy.

Again, it's all about tastes. And fun. =D

I would think that this depends on what part of the world you're in. In the US, quite likely, but in Japan? I find that kind of hard to believe.

There is a guarranteed chance more people have heard of Squaresoft than Rockstar in Japan.
Rockstar's games are more of "Play once then sell" while Square-enix's games are kind of "Play a lot of times and then keep to sell for a larger profit later".

Whoa there!

What about here?

Anyone can jump into a GTA game and play it for as long as they want, whenever. Like Vice City Stories for the PSP. I still love it, and look how old it is. Well, not OLD, but you know. Not so much of a new release.

My opinion! XD

I would have to go with Square. Their story lines are just so much more creative. Unlike Rockstar who most of the time is shoot em up games. Like GTA which is good for the first like 10 times you play it then you say to yourself, "Why am I shooting people up and running over hookers when I could be playing a game that actually makes your brain think instead of killing brain cells?"

I would say Square, definetly. Although, lately their storylines, as I've been noticing in their latest games, are lacking the charm and excitement that their older games used to have. Not just the storylines, either, but the overall gaming experience.

But still, at least Square's games don't involve mindless killing. (Well, except maybe when your beating monsters to death like mad XDDD )
