Get a new game.

you mean a new disc 1? lol...that would work i guess. :) would game stores sell used copies of just one of the discs? because the other discs work fine.

Yes, I agree with Zerlina. It sounds like a dodgy disc to me too. You could try cleaning it or just get a new one. My Civilization 2 disc did that a while ago. I carefully cleaned it under plain running water with a very soft cloth, then wiped it, again very carefully, with a dry very soft cloth. Its run fine ever since. May be worth trying because if the disc is stuffed, it certainly can't make it any worse ;):).

(oh, Zeromus_X, could you please censor the last word out of your sig. The occasional mild swear word may survive in a post, but not in a sig or user name because it appears in every post you make. Thanks :))

If you've had a game for a long time, it's bound to get some scratches and stuff eventually unless you are extremely careful all the time :)

But on the other hand, we've had our copy of FFVII (mine and Xartex, we're brothers, although he kept it since I moved out) since it was released here almost 8 years ago, and the game still works somehow.. well, besides the ending FMV I think :)

About half of our PSX games are second hand. The Civ 2 game (along with all our FF games) was one of them and when you buy second hand, you buy as is. We are careful with our discs and unless they are in the machine, are never out of their case.

Coelie

Well...all my games are 2nd hand 2...maybe 3rd hand...still...they run perfect

Well, yes, leaving a disc out of its case is a big no-no for me, and in my family. Still, some of the oldest PSX games may have a few minor scratches, but nothing that hinders game play.. FFIX is the only game that broke down as far as I can remember.

In any case, CD technology in general is pretty delicate, and it's actually amazing (or terrible I guess) how noone has figured out a way to make a medium that can take some rough handling (that isn't too expensive either I guess). Maybe they figure it's not worth it, but it leads to problems when a game, album or the like becomes near impossible to find in stores due to how old it is..

well if the ff9 cd broke because someone wasn't careful enough, it was neighter me or my brothers fault, we always but the cds where they belong after we've played, in the box... it was problably two cousins of mine who dosen't but them in their boxes, that includes our games when ther're visiting us, no matter how many times i tell them to put them in the boxes, they don't... it's very f*ing annoying

I've had that problem with VIII, IX, and VII - if it's not the disks you may need to upgrade your PS2 [to a new(er) one]. I did and now they work fine.

Well.... you meet him in a couple of places(since he's a thief that moves a lot):

first time you've seen him, he's called Alleyway Jack, in Alexandria, in the utter beginning of the game (he's the guy that explains Tetra Master)

second time he's in Treno, when you're back from Alexandria taking a break (he's in the seq. involving Eiko/Quina/Amarant)

third time you can meet him is in Daguerreo. When you speak to him, you can ask what your thief skill is, or you can play cards with him. The cardgame with him is special, 'cause he only plays with airship cards(and since i collected every card in the game, i played against him a lot; just for the invincible and others :D )

Your Disc is scratched up in that part. Try to clean it using something very soft. Very soft. Start at the center of the disc and brush outwards. Not in circles if this doesn't work you might have to get a new disc. This happened to me with FF7 in disc 1 slums. I just had to get a new FF7. I was able to buy a brand new one!!! I was lucky!

Well, a character named Gilgamesh also appeared in (as far as i know) in FFIII, FFV and indeed FFVIII(= replacing Odin). But the Gilgamesh of FFIX, well, it also shares the cowardness of the other ones, but doesn't show much story, as in FFV. :D

Zeromus_X
02-23-2006, 05:35 PM
There was a minor character named "Gigames" in FFIII , who may be the first Gilgamesh type character, but he just dies right after you beat him anyway :p

He was like the king of Salonia's vizier or something like that.

...isn't he the same as in FF8?

It kinda reminds me of my "Returner" theory, (http://www.ffnet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=10700#post10700) so that each Gilgamesh in a Final Fantasy is the same person, but reincarnated in another world.
Anywho, this is what Wikipedia says about him:

FFIII:

"Gilgamesh is chancellor to Salonia's King Gorn. While controlling the king's mind, he forces Gorn to stab his own son Allus. Realizing what he's done, the king regains control. This angers Gilgamesh, causing him to summon the monster Garuda to fight the Light Warriors while he escapes. Gilgamesh is not seen again for the remainder of the game."
...probably died in an unlucky accident. ^^;

FFV:

"Gilgamesh is a lieutenant of Lord X-Death. He is big on talk, but prefers to put his own safety first; more often than not, he has others to do the fighting for him.
Gilgamesh is first seen on the alien planet, where he is told to guard the imprisoned Bartz, Reina and Faris. Galuf, the only one to escape captivity, infiltrates X-Death's castle and defeats Gilgamesh in a one-on-one battle.
Later the crew meet Gilgamesh again at the Big Bridge, through which the party of Bartz Klauser is trying to flee X-Death's captivity. Gilgamesh here puts up a real fight, but finds an excuse to flee after receiving enough damage.

Gilgamesh is next seen leading an attack on the naval fleet of Zezae Mathias Surgate. With the help of a demon called Enkido, he once again puts up an offensive, but is not as powerful as before.
Later in X-Death's castle, desperate to save face, Gilgamesh attacks Bartz's party with a sword he thinks is the legendary Excalibur, but which turns out actually to be a weak imitation called "Excalipoor".
Disgusted by Gilgamesh's perceived incompetence, X-Death promptly exiles Gilgamesh to the Cleft of Dimension.

When Bartz's party eventually reaches the Cleft of Dimension, they find Gilgamesh lost and frightened, reduced almost to tears. At first they prepare for combat, but then Gilgamesh soon ends the battle himself and takes off.
Gilgamesh's final appearance is again in the Cleft of Dimension, coming to the rescue of Bartz's party in their battle against a sealed monster called Necrophobia. Gilgamesh exchanges warm words of friendship with each of the party members, then self-destructs, annihilating both Necrophobia and himself in the process."
...You could say for the Returner theory, that the Cleft of Dimension is the gateway to other Final Fantasy worlds, where Gilgamesh journeys through directly. After passing away, the spirit of Gilgamesh of FFIII goes through this gateway, and reincarnates as Gilgamesh of FFV.

FFVIII:

"Gilgamesh is a randomly-visiting Guardian Force who replaces Odin in the fourth disc, if the player has already acquired Odin. Gilgamesh randomly chooses one of his four swords to attack all enemies on the screen: the mighty Masamune or Excalibur for heavy damage, the imitation Excalipoor for minimal damage (one hit point), or Odin's Zantetsuken for an instant kill.
According to the story, this is supposed to be a crossover from Final Fantasy V, where Gilgamesh would have escaped from the Cleft of Dimension.
He actually first appears in the final battle against Seifer in Lunatic Pandora, which opens with Odin being killed by Seifer himself. If the battle lasts about 10-15 rounds, Gilgamesh will appear, and (in a war of words) he defeats Seifer, his final remark being a reference to Final Fantasy V."
...So it's pretty certain that the FFV Gilgamesh and FFVIII Gilgamesh are the one and the same.^^ By the powerful self-destruction, killing the foe Necrophobia, he somehow transforms in a powerful Guardian in the Cleft of Dimension itself.

FFIX:

Gilgamesh is a self-proclaimed great treasure hunter who refuses to tell anyone his name. The player encounters this four-armed man multiple times during his journey. The final location where he stays until the end of the game is at the Daguerreo Library. Unlike in previous Final Fantasy games, this Gilgamesh is not associated with battling. Instead, he accredits Zidane, the main character, a rank based upon the rate of stealing items in battle throughout the game. Upon reaching rank S, Gilgamesh gives the key item Rank S Medal in recognition of the feat, and it is then that he confesses his name as well as the lies about him being a great treasure hunter, just before leaving never to be seen again.

Also if you receive the Excalibur II, there is a small note addressed to Gilgamesh about the Excalibur II and Excalipoor:

"To Brother Gil

Bro, I found the sword, like you told me. But there were two. One of 'em had a lame name, Something II. It was a dingy, old thing with flashy decorations, something you'd probably like. So I went with Excalipoor. I'll be back after I find the Tin Armor." "
... Since the Cleft of Dimension could be a gateway/world of spirits, it could be that the Guardian Force powers Gilgamesh obtained slowly vanished, and reïncarnated as 4-armed Human on Gaia. Looking at this note, the Cleft of Dimension could be linked to the Crystal World/thus Memoria, thus leading to Gaia. He probably ended up first in Memoria as a Human, since Excalibur II and the Tin Armor are two items you can achieve from Hades, in Memoria. ^^;

:D So yeah, i made up for my self: Gilgamesh from FFIII, FFV, FFVIII and FFIX are the one and the same. :) ^_^...

I think its your playstation. My psone is the original model and is 11 years old. In the last year or two it is really having trouble loading certain games. Disc 3 always has trouble with the final bit when zidane and co escape terra.
