WARNING! POTENTIAL SPOILER AREA!

I really liked Avathar's idea about posting what ifs in games (in the FFIX forum.) So I wanted to duplicate that idea in this thread for FFVII. I have a good one to start us off with for this particular thread.

My idea is to have someone post a what if, then have the next person post what they think that change or "what if" would do to the storyline in the game.

What if, Seto (Nanaki's father) hadn't singlehandedly fought off the Gi tribe at the rear of Cosmo canyon?

Since I don't want this thread to die... I'll answer and repost.

I think if the above was true, and Jenova was the final boss the storyline would have been complete and A.C. would not be coming out...However I think that this makes more sense if you think about Cloud and Sephiroth both being pawns to Jenova's will. I don't know, brain hurts too much right now.

What if cait sith wasn't a main character?

to comment on jenova: that kick ass! itd be a more "legendary" final battle, id like that more, but i obviously cant change it. :D

kitten sith! nooo! without kitten sith, they wouldnt find the keystone, the city of ancients, save tifa from dying (well, daimond helped a little), or get into midgar at the end of disc three! kitten sith is more important than people think. (and hes a kitty cat! yes he is!! :D)

Arkacia - Then Barrett would not have had a reason to fight. He would still have his wife and his best friend Dyne. Much of the storyline would be changed. Since Tifa fought with Barrett it's questionable if Square would need a new main character or not...probably not though. Great question!

Squall Leonheart - I think that Tifa would be the main character then...not Sephiroth. She'd have to fight against Cloud AND against her feelings for him (however strong they may be.) However, the entity of the entire game would change due to the fact that the whole reason Sephiroth IS the bad guy is because of Jenova - Cloud's excuse would have to be much, much different.

How about a fun one... What if...instead of lulling around in the desert and underwater. The two fiercest enemies in the game (Ruby and Emerald weapon) were fighting to see which would get to Sephiroth first @ the Northern Cavern?

I belive that he would still be waring against the Shin-Ra because of Corel. He lost his hometown, and his woman. That would be enough to make me blow up a couple of reactors also :)
Barret - although he was a hot head after the destruction of Corel - seemed like a down-to-Gaia kind of guy. He had core values (wanting to protect the livelihood of his forefathers - the coal) He was a man of tradition. Then when Shin-Ra took that away from him he kinda snapped.

What if...instead of having the materia system, square stuck with the esper/learn-curve system (such as in FF IV.)

then alot of the story would have to change, as alot of the plot revolves around materia. (like meteor and holy)

then again, i guess holy and meteor could be summons...meh.

what if... the sector 7 plate never fell? (i will never forgive shinra!!! :mad: :p )

What if Cloud had lost it and killed Aeris while she was praying on the altar before Sephiroth got to her? He was totally thinking about doing it, even though he really didn't want to. Man, he'd probably be more scarred than he already is. :(

If Cloud had lost it and killed Aris then she might not have been able to "activate" Holy and Sepiroth would win. Or at least meteor would hit. :mad:

I must appologize - I've let this thread die-off...

I think if Tifa died, Cloud wouldn't be such a wuss throughout the game - he's have been a better hero - but then who knows.

I think that if Barret died the game would not have been effected much - sorry, just MO. Perhaps the North corel mission would have been interesting though.

If Cloud died - yes, I think the party would have given up hope...but perhaps Sephiroth wouldn't have gotten his hands on the Black Materia in the first place...good question.

What would the game have been like if Cloud was in love with Yuffie...just for kicks :)

Yeah, since Yuffie's an optional character, it may not work, but it would lead to some interesting side-quests! :D

the story would be totally different from the start :P since at the beginning cloud used tifa memories to become cloud and cloud doesnt know barret and others.

probally cloud and barret would have a battle against each other. since they didnt like each other from the start

maybe cloud became zack? instead of meeting tifa he met aeris (plu zack was aeris bf)

Sepiroth wins at the end? tifa the reason why cloud recovered

what u think?

Uh...yeah. As for the question, I'd say Cloud would be depressed either way. Probably moreso for Tifa. (Childhood friends and what-not.)

Then the story would've been more like Chrono Trigger's; Jenova probably would have had total control of planetary evolution by that point, and the whole Sephiroth thing would've never gotten off the ground - Jenova wouldn't need Seph if it already controlled the planet.
