Pheonix is such a cool summon - mythological or not! I plan on getting a tattoo similar to the image of the pheonix when Locke brought his (girl)friend back to life in FFVI

What is cool ,what is best i pick what is most strongest EDEN with boost at Lv.31 u can hit 15 000 hp demage i think that is the best gf in ff 8 and he/she have good abilitys. Cerebrus is allso good because of his triple skil that is the best thing in the game ,Diablos is good allso but THE BEST IS A E D E N.

Zeromus_X

I'd say the most useful three are (to me) :

Eden- Damage. C'mon, It can go over 9,999! (i think mine can do like 30,000...)

Doomtrain- Status effects (most importantly, "Meltdown")

Cerberus- Double and Triple. Pretty self-explanatory.

although I don't use Eden often, I'm too lazy to watch the long summon animation. (Then again, I guess It's best to boost it.)

ShadowHeart
02-20-2006, 01:45 PM
I would junction Cerberus, easily. By far the most useable GF, and basically the only one I use. Summoning GFs for damage is an utter waste of time.

In terms of...'coolness'? I like Odin. In fact, I like all, but Odin is the one I like the most, overall in this game.

Lazy? More like efficient lol. What's the point in summoning Eden which takes something like 2 minutes to watch, when you can do the same or easily even more damage in the matter of seconds with desperation moves (limit breaks)? ;) Nah, Eden is cool to watch in the start and its damage is good, but it gets very boring and long-winded to use it after a while. Takes a fair bit of effort to get it up there as well. I once brought it up to its maximum damage cause I wanted to see the effect, and sure it was impressive and cool to see a 5 digit damage roll, but that was before I realized the full potential of Aura+Meltdown :)

You're right.....but out of curiosity, what is your maximum damage while using GF Eden.....& Aura, Meltdown technique isn't always guarenteed, it depends on your enemy....(for instance he can do a multi-damage that ends your life....)

Squall, I can't remember how much I did at most with Eden. But I know that I had Eden at Level 100 and boosted it to 250, and it would do the exact same damage every time like that. It was an even number, something like 30000 or 35000. Can't remember exactly. But I know I hit the roof.

gcarev10

I don't mean to brag.....but that's not even half of the damage Eden can do....

ShadowHeart
03-20-2006, 03:53 PM
Give me a screenshot ;)

And I said I can't remember how much damage I did. I know for a fact though that I had maxed out Eden's level, all abilities and got 250 Boost, and it always did the exact same damage. If an attack in FF always does the exact same damage it has hit a roof. The chance of randomly rolling the exact same damage 10+ times in a row is nonexistant.

Squall Lionheart
03-20-2006, 09:27 PM
The damage made can change depending on your opponent's spirit......so you probably was fighting a single type of monsters with likley high spirit status....

ShadowHeart
03-21-2006, 03:43 AM
Maybe you're right. I was at level 100 with all my characters as well, and that makes monsters level 100 too, which should give many of them a pretty high Spirit.

So what is the most damage you can do then? 70000? Even so, Limit Breaks are still better. Not just in terms of damage, but in terms of execution speed :)

Eden is the best but for u all who things on that long staf u ar wrong coz how u push boost on to 250 if is to short and one more thing i dont u'se Gf's it is just here coz of support abilities Ifrit and Shiva i use on the start of the game, coz i have lov hp, and 1 more is Cerebrus i use him in every dengerus battle more to say every time when i am in batle.

In reality, only Cerberus is a useful GF, since you should be able to make your characters strong enough not to use lengthly GF summons, which can (except for Eden, but takes too long to summon for not as much damage anyway.) only do up to 9,999 damage in the first place. Although for the beginning of the game, I suppose they'd be useful for alot of damage.

Squall Lionheart
04-13-2006, 07:34 PM
While being summoned GF protects you with their HP....
don't forget that...along witrh many other utilities....

Zeromus_X
04-13-2006, 09:44 PM
Well yeah, abilities are a no-brainer. Although I suppose the little meat-shield they provide is useful too. :p So I guess that's one late game use for trying to summon them, especially against Omega Weapon's Terra Break.

The question in the poll is which GF would u junction? For me, it's both a matter of damage-dealing and the awesomeness of the summon itself (Eden^^), but as Shadowheart said, one of the few practical Gfs is Cerberus, actually (or indeed Diablos as well). :) But i'ld still junction Eden, though ('cause i love everything about that summon, but that's just me ^^;)

On the list I like diablos best, reminds me of Vince's chaos limit break in FF VII, which I thought was cool. Not the main reason since I liked Diablos before playing FF VII.

My most used GF in play is Doomtrain. Very helpful, not to mention Dark Tower-esque.

How would they like it if I spoil whatever they make...

Maybe GF Bahamut is the most chosen but I'm very sure he was chosen for the wrong reasons in some cases...

ThroneofDravaris
10-28-2006, 10:32 AM
Bahamut. GFs are almost complete useless to use offensively (like pretty much every other non-limit attack due to FFVIII's horribly unbalanced battle system), so it really just comes down to abilities. Bahamut's Abilityx4, Strength +60%, Auto-Protect and Forbid Mag-RF pretty much make him the best choice.

Squall Lionheart
10-28-2006, 11:41 AM
............

Not to change the subject, but you're very wrong calling the Battle System "unbalanced"...Guardian Forces have many uses other than their abilities...

In the beginning GFs are the best option to use against your enemies and cause tremendous damage to enemies...double the dealt damage in case of using the right element as well as status change in some cases...

For example after reaching high levels and depending on physical attacks, some GFs are still good advantage not only for their abilities (Command, Menu, Character, Party, etc...) but for their use themselves i.e. GF Odin, Gilgamesh, Eden, Phoenix, Cerberus, Carbuncle, Doomtrain etc...

Even with good physical attacks, summoning any GF can be useful...
For example a highly compatible GF can deal equal or more damage than a physical attack ( Very effective against enemies with high Vitality Stat ) depending on the GF's boost...also summoning that GF won't take any time and the GF protects the summoning party member with its HP during that time...

Make sure you don't underestimate your GFs

The Battle System is anything but unbalanced...if you depend only on Limit Breaks then you're the unbalanced one...
Limit Breaks are for critical situations not for every battle...

To stay on subject I already said that I chose Griever...

ThroneofDravaris
10-28-2006, 12:12 PM
GF attacks are obsolete pretty much from the word go, due to the nature of the junctioning system and the ease in which limit breaks can be obtained. Even without junctions to strength, Squall can cause more damage with a single renzokuken at the beginning of the game than any GF and as long as you keep him on low HP, he can use it every turn. Factor in Squall with 100 fires (an easily obtainable spell from the word go) junctioned to strength and Squall can defeat the first few bosses with one or two limit breaks. As soon as you have learned the magic refineries (all of the basic ones being easy to learn for a mere 30 AP) you gain access to a host of high level magic that boosts Squall’s attack power to insane proportions. You can easily boost Squalls attack power high enough to cause around 1000 damage per hit with Renzokuken on disk one through firaga’s and various percentage boosts, not only making the game incredibly easy from the beginning but also ensuring that Limit Breaks are more or less the only form of attacks you will ever use. The only remotely useful GFs are those that cast positive status’, and even then I never felt the need to use them because magic does a pitiful amount of damage in FFVIII, and defensive magic was never necessary because I had insanely high HP (due to refining Tents for Curagas via Siren’s Life refinery) and I killed pretty much every boss besides a few at the end in less than 3 minutes.

If you read ToD's post, then there shouldn't be any questions as to the horrible inbalance in FFVIII's system. Even if you like the game or it's or favorite or whatever, you are allowed to admit it has flaws.

Even without junctions to strength, Squall can cause more damage with a single renzokuken at the beginning of the game than any GF and as long as you keep him on low HP, he can use it every turn.

Or you can use Aura and keep Squall's HP high so that you lose him in one enemy attack... Is this still about prefered GF's? I prefer Diablos, he looks the coolest and does the most damage on most enemy's (GF wise...).

Nothing wrong with what you said there, Diablos is AWESOME in EVERY WAY unless he misses. I think I read somewhere that as his level grows more, so does his gravitationnal power and the ratio of HP it damages until it becomes just like Gravija (3/4 HP). How cool is THAT!? :D

jftr, I don't "target" people; if I called you on one of your posts on more than one occasioning it was because I genuinely disagreed with what was said. I will do this with anyone, and have done in the past, regardless of who they are. Although keep in mind that with the above situation it was someone disagreeing with what I said; not the other way around.

Also, I've not once received a formal complaint from the administration about my conduct on this forum, so my posts can't possibly be that brash. If you honestly think there is something wrong with my posts though you know where to send your complaints.

Yeah your right on a really weak monster that can happen, same applys for quistis's 'shockwave pulsar spell'

I have never came across any compatability items for eden. Does anyone know if there are any?

I suppose there could be a possiblity that it is in the chocobo world mini game where these eden compatability items are.

Squall Lionheart
10-30-2006, 07:04 PM
It's not that hard to raise your comaptibility to a decent status with your junctionned GF, just use it in battle...

For example, Guardian Force Eden can be used against monsters with high HP...that way you can benefit of the gainned EXP and AP...in general if you cast a GF several times in one battle, your compatibility with that GF rises accordingly but make sure that you summon the GF ...selecting the command without summoning the GF (For example the monster is defeated by another party member before you can summon your GF) won't raise your compatibility...

You can also use the item refined from Chocobo's card, it should raise your compatibility with all GFs...

dappa
10-31-2006, 09:31 AM
I noticed that eden's compatibility only goes up one after each time you summon it no matter who the person is. I once spent a week getting zells compatibilty up to max. Getting all those luv luv g's is too much hassle.
