N00b @ FF 2

Well, I didn't expect so much out of the new leveling system in this game - but I was WAY wrong. There's TOO much to level IMO. = D The storyline so far is pretty exciting though. I'm about to get the Goddess' Bell. I'm busy leveling Josef's stats before he *cough* takes off - and I don't see him again till SoR.

Anyone else play through this game? Your thoughts...or any pointers/advice on what to do weapon/item-wise with leveling???

;a06

BTW: I'm playing through it on DoS for the GBA.

One of my favourite FFs.

It's really fofo... Great storyline... you can raise your stats in the way you want... I love the characters... and the game is very exciting.

One of the best, I repeat...

You can become a god right at the start of the game using the cancel bug.

Re: N00b @ FF 2

The cancel bug was removed from the DoS version, however, stats and magic are much easier to level up in that version to compensate.

What was the cancel bug? I have never heard of it...

Re: N00b @ FF 2

It's a pretty infamous bug in the original, WSC, and PS1 versions of FFII, if you targetted an enemy or ally with an attack or spell, then cancelled the action of the next character in line, you would still recieve the proficiency points of the previous action that you cancelled.

For example, Maria targets the enemy with a Fire spell. Then, on Guy's turn, you cancel and go back to Maria's turn. Now Maria uses a normal attack. She'll still receive the proficiency from selecting Fire, even though she never actually used it. It's an easier/tedious way of leveling up skills, although it'll be a long haul trying to level up those spells without it. In the DoS version, skills level up at an acceptable rate, making this bug unnecessary even if it existed in that version.

At any rate you can become nigh invulnerable by maxing out your evasion with Shields and beating up your own characters to raise their HP.

Hum... The wouldn't be that exciting, though

It aint very exciting but it can be neccessary to level up your spells as getting them to level 16 is a huge task bordering on the insane.

Try the banish spell at level 16, even bosses dont withstand its power unless the said enemy is immune to it. I might also add you dont need a cancel trick to level the banish or warp spell to level 16 as all you need to do is use it in a town then walk back into a town and use it again, tedious I know.

The cancel trick dont work for the 4th character on the screen I might add

Yes, that's what I was thinking, as the next round begins when you choose the last character's action.

I just tried the bug, and it worked, but it was still a relatively slow process.

Re: N00b @ FF 2

When I cleared the game I had leon on level 10 for most of his spells. I couldn't be bothered to get em to level 16. But If you go to pandemonium and get him to attack enemies in the secret room where the masamune blade is I have noticed his proficiency level goes up faster. Thats what I always do for the fourth character.

As for getting the characters levels up fast all I did was cancel an action around 100 times to advance a level. So you can say within 16 battles you can maximise a stat or spell. Once you go past level 10 on a spell you roughly need to start cancelling around 150+ times. It can be hard on your hands as they will start aching after awhile.

Apparently in the PSP version of FFII, they changed the rate at which HP, MP and the other stats raise. So it's actually balanced now xD

Re: N00b @ FF 2

The rates were fixed in the GBA version, which the PSP version is heavily based upon (sans the graphical and audio upgrade, of course).

I got to the Ice Cavern...and before Marwu(?) left he had over 1000 HP and his Teleport spell was on level 5 :D Will make SoR much easier methinks...

Josef is also gaining some spells/spl. lvls. and HP. I'm gonna stick him with a Mythril Sword and Spear for SoR. = 333

I let my friend borrow my DS for a week or two...I'm too busy with X: International anyway. XD

Heh, I was just going to recommend giving them Osmose if at all possible before they kick the bucket, although I think you have to wait until Mysidia to purchase it.

Lol, have fun with Ribbon. :p

Phoenix Flame 08-04-2007 03:19 AM

Re: N00b @ FF 2

I'm having fun with it in general...thanky.

BTW: You only get ONE osmose, correct? I think I'd rather have it on Maria - I never used it much in other FFs anyway.
