His mother becoming a fayth, to help him obtain power, knowing he'll want more power, so he'll become a maester of Spira, ruling it with a peaceful will. Until she realized that power he had, with his already twisted mind of what had happened to his mother, and the power behold him. It made him thirst for more, and ultimately turned him crazy, craving power, until he found out how to become Sin, the bringer of all death, the ultimate power in Spira.
Is why he's so crazy and smexy. =D So, yeah, you're right.
