I thought the job system was great actually. I don't think I always picked the best jobs for every situation but I thought it worked quite well. I thought the game in general was pretty fun, even if the story seemed a little... rushed in some places, where some events just happened very randomly. Still, I'd say FF5 is my favourite older FF. I'm one of the few people who didn't really get into FF6 at all to the point where I didn't even feel compelled to complete it. =\

Re: FF5 - Best of the classics?

Final fantasy V has always been my favorite FF game, and still is...and 've played almost every FF game thus far.
The job class system is absolutely great, the game difficulty is well balanced(easy at times, hard at some spots), its fairly long compared to FFIV, and just looks really nice and classic...plus the story relates to the original FFI...and its the first FF to introduce Gilgamesh, amongst many other FF enemies and terms...and well, its just an all around important game in the series, as under-rated as it is.

Re: FF5 - Best of the classics?

FFV was awesome, my mother, brother, and I played it to death...We had mastered most of the job classes and everything, although we never did beat Omega and that dragon in the chest in the final dungeon.
I liked everything about it except one thing about the ending, X-Death is a bloody tree in the end, litterally. I dunno if that should be a major shock or just plain screwed up. Other than that I loved it.
