i dont know why this is, but im trying to level up my materia, and some of them dont seem to be getting ap! (KOR, shield, mime,..) why is this? it only seems to be the really powerful materias. i mean, KOR isnt gonna level up himself!

Some weapons and armor have materia growth None, just like some have Double or Triple (aside from Normal) growth. This means materia equipped on them won't gain any AP. All characters' ultimate weapons (except Aeris') have materia growth None, and there are some armors that has it too, not sure about any other weapons. That's probably your problem.

You can see what materia growth a weapon or armor has simply by pointing at it in the Equip screen.

I made that same mistake when I started playing.

Yes, Shadowheart is right; you have to look at the growth on the weapon/armour.
