Forum Sites Are Dying

There is always new things to discuss in the world so I don't think forum making will ever cease. I also agree with Catalyst about the whole "you get smashed for replying in a 1-2 month old thread thing."

What is this "you'll get smashed"?
Do you mean that people will yell at you for spamming if you revive an old thread?
If so then no they won't. Its only if you revive a thread that has no point. ex: Posting in a thread were the topic was asking for help and the help was already given. Fell free to post in any thread old or new so long as you have something worth saying.

It's really sad though. In some forums the thread could be 3 pages back (I'll use Gaia Online for an example) and even if that forum is super active and you find that thread on the first page, people (Well if the forum is too busy so to speak) will probably rant at you for it. Even the mods to sometimes as well.

Some have mentioned that over the years it's become a 'fad' or a 'trend'. Then something else pops up and you go to that, and sometimes they come back and post about it for a while and disappear again.

I'm not trying to put down ffnet.net, or any other site in general - it's just there's so many that cover the same topics. There's probably hundreds of game-related forums, or even specific-game forums out there. i believe that if it covers an unusual or rare topic it'd be a bit more popular, such as a game developer site, or that has material of it's own, such as newsletters and so on. Such as Gamespot, IGN, EGM and so on.

In today's 'forum world', it's beginning to really die down, what do you guys think?

O_O I have noticed this too. Being and owner of my own forums, I would know. I fear the time of the forum is comming to pass. But I will remain loyal to them. *Because I have no life other than going out with friends and cosplaying or drawing, singing and so on*

Then there's another problem - getting slammed with having "no life".

So I sit in front of my laptop from when I get home from school to when I go to bed. I either play Counterstrike or WoW, or go on forums.
