Mohammed Cartoons

Sometimes i really think the world is going down. A perfect example are the Danish Mohammed Cartoons: they have such power to provoce an entire holy war for all Muslims. Now mostly, i'm not that interested in politics, but this getting obnoxiously absurd. It's definetly not the first time that there are charicaturised pictures of the Prophet and the Islam, but it's gone so far that withthese cartoons a holy war has started.
Then it's also become stereotypical that the Islam has become the most aggressive religion, for there are also thousands of charicatures of Jesus and Christianity, but never has there ocurred something so massive as what's happening now.
For the cartoons themselves, they are indeed very insulting, but above all very provocative, for i think that's almost the utter reason why they are published. Some are somewhat comical, but most of them are really just in case of provocation.
And now it seems like Denmark has become the main enemy of all Muslims throughout the world, just because of one Danish person who had the idea for another load of cartoons.
It's sad.

Re: Mohammed Cartoons

I'd just like to point out something; the muslims that want a holy war or whatever due to this, are a minority as far as I know (I even heard muslims saying that), unfortunately it's basically that minority that is also likely willing to use terrorist actions to make that war.

But yeah, it's amazing how much turmoil this has created. Amazingly worrying.

Re: Mohammed Cartoons

It's just a bunch of rabble-rousers out there. Sure the cartoon is offensive, but that's what freedom is all about, the ability to offend people and back and forth it goes. If they don't want to be offended then I guess they don't like freedom.

BTW, it's quite amazing how violence can enact change, where sitting down and talking can fail.

Exclamation Re: Mohammed Cartoons

I know alot about this so:.....

To Avathar: These guys are forbidden to make pictures, so when someone does it in an unhuman way, pointless & just provacative, what would you expect out of peacfull people, the damage has been done (heavily also...), there is nothing to talk about.... just prevent it, thought I disagree very much about making a link to such things, it's just contributing in publishing the act to me!...Also the gouverment refused to make any kind of official (or even unofficial) appology, saying that this is an extremist non resposible magazine, & finaly was strict about the freedom of oppinions...... in summary, it was a completely unfriendly reaction...
NOTE: Most of the world think wrongfully due to world-wide propaganda that they are directly (or at least in one way or the other) linked to terrorism which is completely wrong......

To ShadowHeart: Much turmoil was caused indeed, but holy war isn't the goal, just punishment, since so much anger was evoked as a result to the dishonorable act that they endured....
the minority you point out to are probably extremists (who knows what their real goals are).....since they should be peacfull like evreyone else....but you are right about the terrorism probability 100%

To Spiff: There is something you should think about more than 100 times before you say it again, because it's the base of your oppinion (& your belief), a free oppinion can disagree on something, but you can't offend it or insult it, that is being an idiot & starting serious fights (Just like "Rinoa Worth it?" thread) so know that refusing an offense or an insult isn't refusing freedom, it's about defending your doubted honor in stake!.....

Re: Mohammed Cartoons

Well, the reason why i actually made the link to the actual cartoons is that i haven't seen them here in the papers, or in the news. That's why i thought for a minute: are the guys from the news and the papers just chickened out? Just mentioning that there are offensive cartoons towards Mohammed the Prophet? Well i think that's kinda lame.
That would exactly be discussing about this, if i hadn't put the link; you know what it does, but you don't know how it looks like.
If there are people here who find them offensive, i should have put a warning sign or something, but i clearly said in the text before the link that the cartoons are in that link.

Arrow Re: Mohammed Cartoons

You're probably right about putting a warning.........
And the news are not afraid,.....but you're not you getting the idea..... if a small magazine did this much damage although their gouverment ignored their responsibility of that magazine......no one would want any more damage causing or offense & insults.....at least that's what I am thinking.......
And you said:" You know what it does, but you don't know what it looks like.....!" that's exactly what I mean......
in your life....
knowing the shape of the events that change it won't make a diffrence at all.......

......you just know that they change it ......(like knowing what destiny looks like....)
This is stupid, I'll just stop talking....

Re: Mohammed Cartoons

But i also truly believe, just like Spiff said, in freedom of expression. Personally i don't really have a border on sense of humor, although that could really hurt people verbally (or in this case visually, and therefore very mentally); still, i'ld believe in no boundries in that case.
But offcourse, if everybody would start thinking like that, it would cause real chaos.. although from what i've heard in the news, that in Libanon and other countries the Danish Embassies got really annihilated Which just isn't fair...Then i wonder what the boundries are with those Muslim extremists and fundamentalists.........

Re: Mohammed Cartoons

.....At least you know the results of irresponsible humour,it's just up to you to know when to stop....but that's none of my buisness......
Your rumors are facts......but that was probably because of incooperation of the gouverment & their cold reaction towards such a underestimated problem.........
