o.O

Pluto isn't a planet anymore? Wow. XD I didn't know that. o.O

Well, you just need some advertising. Not over-excessive advertising that'll get you banned, or anything like that. Just tell a small number of people, who'll pass it on to other, and so forth. =D

Re: Forum Sites Are Dying

That's what I've been doing. I've been trying to recruit people to help out with development, but of course, "everyone's too busy", which the majority if the time they just don't want to be blunt and say "no". To me it's pretty easy to figure out.

I've told classmates (I'm upgrading my marks in highschool - I'm already graduated by the way) I've asked teachers for help, and my mom even said once we really get going, she'll do business cards. Right now we only have 4 people on the actual team that are active, so it's back to that other thread sort of thing.

Re: Forum Sites Are Dying

Most of the popular FF forums are still flourishing. FFShrine, FF Online and FF Insider still has a large variety of members. EoFF and ACF have far too many members. The only one that I can think of that is obviously dieing and ever had a great deal of notoriety is FFWA.

Re: Forum Sites Are Dying

I've never heard of the last two (I checked out FFWA and man the colors...yuck. The first three yeah, I know they're big.

But another problem with Final Fantasy stuff is that the threads are repeated on every forum.

"Who's your least/favourite <thing>?" "Favourite team" "Hardest boss" "Favourite game" "Least Favourite Game" "Secret stuff related thread" "Who's the hottest character"

It also doesn't help that the development crew of Squeenix is taking so long in between games to actually release them. Look how long it took for Final Fantasy XII to come out.

Re: Forum Sites Are Dying

FFWA was pretty much the original Final Fantasy forum that generated other boards like EoFF later on. ACF (Advent Children Forums) is currently the most popular Final Fantasy forum on the internet.

And I'll think you'll find that most large forums has a problem with people making similar kinds of threads over and over again, not just ones about Final Fantasy.

Re: Forum Sites Are Dying

A long, long time ago...in the year 2002...I was a member of a great FF forum called, "All World Final Fantasy."

I had some good times there...they had already been a forum for a long time when I joined, and I was am active member for a few years. Alas, one day, they finally closed...Even though they were only going to "redo" the site, after it was done and everyone came back, well...it just wasn't the same for me. I honestly think that they should have just closed for good...the site was declining in active members, and just about everything there is to discuss had already been discussed...

And someday, I think, this forum, and every other forum will eventually die, and new forums will take their place. Forums are a never-ending cycle, at least, I think so. As long as there are new people getting to know the online world, and there are people already in it, there will always be forums and discussion boards.
So even if this site were to die, there are hundreds of others to go to.

But...I hope this site doesn't go, not for a while, anyway. I still need a chance to get to know it a little better.

I was a member of FFwa.org (Final Fantasy Worlds Apart) for quite some time which was a sister site of waFF.com.

I think the "baine of all forums" is that they get to many people and it becomes impossible to keep tract of what has been said and everything just becomes a repeat. This is starting to happen here, but more because no one searches the forum to see if their thread idea has already been made. I am always reading the threads on the last pages of a sub-forum. ;dep ;dep ;dep ;dep

The "cure" for this is exactly what the mods have been doing. When I signed up there were 10 smilies, the RPG Hack as a bunch of flaws, and almost no forum games. Now there is a bunch of fun stuff to do here besides post.
So long as Square keeps coming out with new games and memebers don't get repetative FFnet will continue to be a great place to waste your life. ;wel ;wel ;wel

Re: Forum Sites Are Dying

Yeah tiny bronco is right there are too many repeat threads. I always check all the threads before inventing one.

As for forum sites dying I think it depends on its users and how good the overall site is.

Re: Forum Sites Are Dying

The funny thing is though, lets say a topic called, "Who's your favourite main Final Fantasy character?" - and it's at the 5th page. If you reply to that and lets say the last post date is June 23rd, 2006 - and the current date is February 4th, 2007, if you reply to that topic - you will get smashed to no means. Even if it's only a month or two, you'll get bashed too.

Hm...I have an awful tendency to make up the excuse, "sorry if this has been done before."

Everyone who does this when making a new topic, (including mich (me), ) should listen to you, dappa.

And also, yes, old topic revival, or "Necromancy," is a common problem among forums. However, I don't see a problem with it if the topic's two or three weeks old at the most, just not two or the months. But I abide by the rules (as everyone should,) and so even if one couldn't reply to a one-week old topic, I would obey that rule.

Which, brings up another thing..."rules." SO many people just do NOT read the rules, and this often causes a forum to become chaotic with spammers of all sorts...And even just people who have no idea what they're doing, and whatever they say only seems like spam. Whoever joins a forum needs to always read, or even ask about, the rules. But the world isn't perfect--I think that this will always be a problem that no forum can truly avoid.

Re: Forum Sites Are Dying

There is always new things to discuss in the world so I don't think forum making will ever cease. I also agree with Catalyst about the whole "you get smashed for replying in a 1-2 month old thread thing."

You didn't? Lol, Pluto is about as much of a planet as Sedna is, in other word's; it's hardly even a planet. =P
