biggs/wedge first appeared in ff6. they were imperial soldiers who were escorting tina in the beginning of the game. in ff7, they were AVALANCHE members. in ff8, they were galbadian soldiers.

yes, its a star wars reference. ff8 has the most star wars named characters, besides biggs and wedge, nida, a SEED , and pilot ; and piet, the dude who runs the space station . (its been a while since i last played ff8..)

id say square likes star wars ^^;;

edit: im not sure if bahamut was in ff2, i know dragons were in that one, but not a bahamut. meh.

And there were also a Biggs and Wedge in Final Fantasy X and X-2: weren't they guards of the blitzball stadium?

actually, if you name your main character's name Cid then you can control him.

Cid in final fantasy 7 is my favourite one due to his dialogue and the fact he lights a smoke at the end of every battle.
