Re: Symbolism in FFIX

Zidane is the surname of a French soccer player, and not just any soccer player, he was elected the best player in the world a couple of years ago. That's all I know about that name

Odd...must mean either more than that, or none at all.

Re: Symbolism in FFIX

Quan (Quale's Master and Vivi's Grandfather) used to live in a cave with Vivi. The cave's got a couple of benefits: healing source, chocobotreasure, twice a stellazio, and a secret sequence involving Quina and Vivi.

I have a quick question. If Vivi is a black mage then why does his grandpa look like Quina ?

SPOILER WARNING

Because it's not his biological grandpa? He just calls him that?

Re: Symbolism in FFIX

plain and simple, FF9 was the last of the traditional FF rpgs, and therefore it was made as a tribute to its predecessors; that is the reason for all of the references to the older FF games. Not to mention it is my favorite FF (after 7). If you have played the all of the FFs you will also notice A LOT of recycled music throughout the whole game.

correct quote.....wrong location. he actually sees it in the shop in lindblum (weapon shop check it out ) they have "good" weapons............cough cough STEINER cough cough...........

some sybological things like the obvious thing of memories (hello a place called MEMORIA!!) also theres things about terra and stuff (linking to creation of humans ) another thing i saw was the bit with the whole edilon wall thing........cave paintings. maybe.........EDILONS EXIST?!?!?!?!?!...........yer i no......

one thing i did notice though was the link from ff9 to ff5 (the lifa tree!!!) ff5 the source of all bad things is tht tree (Ex-death with extra grow) and then the lifa tree the source of mist (which creates black mages and binds terra to gaia another evil thing ) lots of evil. the kuja taking everyone with him thing makes sense.................fear of death after all is natural....

Re: Symbolism in FFIX

I might as well post a list of some references:
*Some spoilers*

1. The name "Garland" is a reference to FF1's Garland.
2. The buster sword quote. Although, I can't seem to see the Buster sword on the wall.
3. "Kains lance" is a reference to FFIV's Kain.
4. The 4 chaos guardians are references to FFI's guardians.
5. The Namingway card is a reference to FFIV's "Namingway" who also renames your characters.
6. The dwarves greeting "Rally-ho" is a mis-translation of FFIV's "Lali-ho"
7. Kuja's "Flare-star" attack is also used by Atma in FFVI.
8. FFIX's best weapon "Ultima-Weapon" is a mis-translation of "Atma-weapon". Zidanes best weapon was orginally meant to be named "Atma-weapon" (There was also a awesome weapon in FFVI called Atma-weapon.)
9. Cid's last name "Fabool" is a reference to a town called "Fabul" in FFIV.
10. Moogles are a reference to the first game they were in, FFIII.
11. The biggest reference of them all, Terra, she was a main character in FFVI.

There are tons more (over 100 in all) but I can't post them all.

Re: Symbolism in FFIX

Haha, I've discovered a new one, I thought I've known all the obvious ones, but:

When In Black Mage Village, there's a baby Chocobo called Bobby Corwen.

Zidane: "Why do they keep calling it by it's full name?"

BOBBY CORWEN (FFIX) - BOCO (FFV)

^^
