That was in X, unfortunately. In IX they automatically were 'short' and randomly showed the full animation. And there was an ability to always show the 'long' animation.

I got all the enemy skills too, many of them are useful...some suck.

Anyway, back to the topic, i have a few favorites and they are as follows, (ordered by type)

Summons:
Knights of the round
Bahamut/Neo Bahamut/Bahamut Zero
(These i use most until i defeat emerald weapon and get the master materia set)

Commands:
Mime
Enemy skill
W-item
W-magic
W-summon
Double cut

Support:
Quadra magic
Final attack

Independant:
Mastered hp plus
Counter Attack
Long Range

Magic:
Ultima
mastered Cure (Although it's kind of pointless altogether after you obtain one megaelixer and w-item materia. I like to utalize the item dupication glitch)
Flare
Tornado
Freeze
(These i use most until i defeat emerald weapon and get the master materia set)

Where do you get the flare materia at?

It's actually 'Contain' Materia (which teaches the spell Flare), and you find it by rubbing behind the White Chocobo's ear and giving it a Mimett Green at Mideel. I don't remember for sure, so don't quote me on that.

To be honest, I never knew there was a Flare spell in the game until the second time I played it. :/ And yeah, it looks badass.

but other than that Quadra Magic/KOR with a lil HP<-->MP materia and mime makes emerald ezpk
