New FF versions. Which are worth it IYO?

With so many different comebacks out there, which are worth it to get? I just recently purchased a Nintendo DS & a DS Lite. (One is a present to a family member.)

I've seen a new version of IV, V and VI on the market (of course I'll get VI ) but I wanted to know if the others were worth it. I've only got about $100 of extra spending money and want to get the most bang...er Flare for my buck.

Any suggestions all?

Re: New FF versions. Which are worth it IYO?

I'd recommend all the GBA ports, and definitely FFIII for the DS. Of course, that's going to be over $100, but I'd definitely recommend them all. FFIV has a great cast of characters and storyline, with a good bonus dungeon and character selection near the end of the game. FFV has a ton of upgrades with four new jobs and a very challenging bonus dungeon. FFVI is a wonderful game, and although downgraded, has quite a few extras of its own. FFIII is a classic game, reborn in 3D with a rebalanced battle and job system. However, it also retains its old-school difficulty, which might be a turn off in deciding to play it. It's basically up to you which ones you want to get, although, I didn't purchase them all at once. If you can wait until February, FFVI Advance comes out (February 4th, if I recall), and its definitely worth the wait. FFIV and V Advance are also already released, of course.

Also of note are Final Fantasy I and II: Dawn of Souls. With upgraded Wonderswan graphics and significantly decreased frustration to cater to the new generation, you can enjoy the first two Final Fantasies portable without having to tear your hair out in frustration due to ancient annoyances.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is a wonderful portable FF game set in the world of Ivalice, though a bit different this time. FFTA can get pretty addicting, as there are a plethora of different things to do in it, beyond the main storyline. You probably wouldn't want to do all of these things unless you were a completionist, however.

So, bottom line:

1.) FFVI Advance
2.) FFV Advance
3.) FFIII DS
4.) FFIV Advance
5.) FFI & II: Dawn of Souls
6.) FFT Advance

Thanks! That really, REALLY helps.

Seeing as I haven't played FF I-V, I think I'll begin with those. VI will just be mostly a repeat of a repeat of a repeat...so, meh!

I think I'll go with IV first. I know that's your fav! Heh.

Even though the gba ports are better presented overall, from what I have been reading about them they are easier than the psone and nintendo originals.

I would go with the psone ports myself but thats my own opinion

I loved playing Dawn of Souls!

I didn't play any other GB/DS version.

The Dawn of Souls version of FFI and II are much easier, but really, newer players to those games of yore shouldn't have to bother with ancient game mechanics. FFIV had some bugs and turn issues that made the game somewhat easier, though the enemies are still as powerful. FFIII, V, and VI are the same difficulty (FFIII might be easier or more difficult depending on how you feel about it, but it did have a number of gameplay mechanics changed), and FFVI is easy anyway. :p

I found them really easy, yes. It's one of the biggest problems.

FFIV is definitely a must. Some of the storyline is, well, obvious after viewing certain events, but the gameplay is challenging enough. I thought it was overall a good game, so I hope it arrives in the mail for you soon. >_^
