Man u 1-st to know in the game, he is midgar terorist or if u wont fighter for bether life in midgar, he is good fighter i love his limit break most of them sarelite beam, he allso have 1 heand who hi lost save his friend so say something abaut him.

He didnt actualy directly lose it to save Dyne. He tried to pull him up on a cliff and got shot while doing so.

I actually haven't heard any remarks by anyone so far that Barret's criticized of being a stereotype of an African American, but hey, just like i said he looks a lot like Mr. T: the way he acts, the way he curses: it totally suits this character, for being the somewhat brute leader of a terrorist group. ;)
And like all the other main characters: quite a deep background story, with Dyne and all. :( :o

Mr. T and Barret do show quite a similiarity but he's cool and extremely funny as hell.

Well, at the beginning, there weren't many fans of Barret, with him being portrayed as quite the stereotypical aggresive afro-american. =/
