Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
Dragon Quest/Warrior is one of my all-time favorite series...
...so I thought I would start a thread to see who's played this series (or any of the games) and what your thoughts were on them. I've played 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8. I have a tie for my favorite because the third and eighth installments were both so good. X3 What are your thoughts?

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
The games are pretty decent. It's not my favorite JRPG series by any means and I tend to agree with the notion that once you've played one DQ game you've pretty much played them all. However, Dragon Quest VIII discarded quite a few of the more outdated quirks that had been holding the series back (namely the excessive grinding) and DQIX, despite abandoning the idea of a more action oriented battle system, looks like it will be a similarly large step forward.
I've played all 8 of the main games but only beaten I and IV. I've played about 2/3 of III and 2/5 of VIII. I've only a few hours into V and VII and have barely started II and VI. |

...also, any links to DQ IX? I'd like to check that out.

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
Dragon Quest V and VI are both for the SNES. They were never released outside of Japan, but there is a 100% complete fantranslation of DQV and a 96% complete fantranslation of DQVI that can easily be found through a google search. Both of these games, as well as Dragon Quest IV, are also being remade for the DS though so you may want to just wait for them (the DQIV remake is being released in Japan in december). Dragon Warrior VII is for the playstation. It's too slow moving for my tastes, but admittedly I've only played 4 hours of what is supposedly a 150 hour game (one of the longest JRPGs ever made).
This has some pretty decent information on Dragon Quest IX. There was also a great trailer on YouTube from 2006, but the game has changed from an action RPG back to a more traditional turn based RPG since then so the footage is pretty redundant now. Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
The games are all great fun, and they have a great nostalgia factor going on. Some of them are a bit less enjoyable than the others, and most of the older ones can be a bit frustrating at times, but it's still a pretty enjoyable series. I've played I, II, III, the beginning of IV, V, and VI, and VIII. Can't wait for DQIX, especially since the Zenithian Castle is involved with it somehow, and the DS remakes.

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
I just love quest III - the ability to customize your party...as well as changing job classes allowed for maximum tweakage. Example? I just completed the game again. My ending party consisted of my Hero, one Soldier w/complete list of Pilgrim's magic; one Sage w/both - Wizard's and Pilgrim's - magics; one Pilgrim w/both magic classes as well. = 3 My whole party could be all-out attackers, since I changed my Fighter to my Sage later in the game (almost level 40.) It was the most funI've had beating a JRPG in less than a week than I've had before XD *cough* help *cough cough* 0.0!
I'm enthused....this post makes 2,500 for me! = D

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
Class changing would have been more appealing if it didn't involve having to re-level all your characters. Leveling up takes forever in Dragon Quest games. Having to do it twice is a nightmare.

I've...THOUGHT about playing Dragon Quest...but it's one of those games that, I just don't think that I ever will.
I can understand what everyone else is saying about the series, good and bad, but overall, DQ doesn't really appeal to me. I wish it did, for KB's sake, then maybe we'd have some kind of conversation starter. XD But other than that, as a whole, it just doesn't appeal to my inrigue.

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
I just got back into DQVIII again.
(After accidentally deleting my 100+ level 81 characters on my Gameshark. <.<) The beginning is boring. I thought I'd quit just after being ten minutes into it. But once I got into the waterfall, I was sold. Again. ;] Does anyone recommend a good DQ game? I'll go download whatever it takes to play it. Am not care about the graphics. Just gameplay and story.

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
Dragon Warrior III and IV are considered by most to be the highlights of the series but to be honest, V, VI and VIII all seem just as good from what I've played of them. I would probably go with IV, although if you plan on playing the original NES version (which you most likely will be, since the PSX remake was never released here and the DS remake isn't out in english yet) then be sure to use a game-genie cheat to get rid of the AI party control during chapter 5. I played through the game with it on, and I have to say there is nothing more annoying then watching your characters cast continually cast instant-death spells on bosses which are immune instead of doing something actually useful.

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
You COULD always take Cristo OUT of your party during dungeons/boss battles - but I ABSOLUTELY can relate to what you're saying...
OH!!! *SPOILERS!!* - And if you wait until you are in the Dark World to re-level your characters it's not too bad. (Took me about an hour to reach level 30 again with all three...but that's because I waited until I was almost level 40 to change classes. If you are playing 8, I would say just stick with that...or try 3 w/me = 3 Four (as ToD mentioned) is very good as well...but leveling up 5 different times from level 1 was too excessive for me. XO ...playing through it one more time before I turn on 8 - Which I've never completed =(

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
...neither can I. ==D This game is sooo good! I finally beat it - got through the optional dungeon and then beat it again to see the best ending. My friend couldn't believe it when I told him that I would rank Dragon Quest VIII over FF VII. O_O
SRSLY - it's THAT good! (well, in my humble opinion anyway. =3)

Re: Dragon Warrior Series *Yay!* = D
What do you guys think about DQ IX being on a handheld (DS)? I'm not too thrilled, I don't use my DS much. I still need to play through the old FFs though...so maybe I'll pick it up again to play those. >_>;
